Week of Workouts

Hello there! Here is a snapshot of last week's workouts for me. On Sundays, I look at the week ahead to plan my workouts around my work schedule, daycare drop off, and the weather (I despise running on the treadmill more than a few miles and much prefer outside, even if it is 25 degrees).

I didn't have any early morning work meetings so I was able to do my normal Monday and Thursday daycare drop off - my husband does Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays. Also, the weather gave me the green light with my regular planned outside run days. My husband and I had to recalibrate both of our workout routines after our daugther arrived, but so far have found a rhythm for now. In reality, it means we get up most days by 4:30am (weekends included for me) to ensure we can make the time.

Sunday - group fitness class at my gym + 1 mile easy walk on the treadmill after

Every Sunday, I wake up and plan our meals for the week and prep my daughter's first bottle and breakfast. I go to my gym for the earliest class at 8am, shower and head to the grocery store to pick up everything for the week ahead of meals. While I'm gone, Nick will feed her first bottle, breakfast, and take her on a walk before I make it home at 10am.

Our Sundays are typically relaxed, I do a bit of meal prep to make the week easier and knock out errands. If it is nice weather, we will typically go for a family walk in the afternoon but today was a rainy day so I did an extra mile on the treadmill for some additional steps.

Monday - 3.5 mile treadmill run

I was up and running by 5:30am in our basement gym to be ready for work before my daughter woke up (she typically wakes up between 6:30 - 7am). I've been watching Love is Blind (season 3 because I am up to date on the recent seasons).

Tuesday - 7 mile run outside

My daughter had a doctor's appointment my husband was taking her to this morning - normally for Tuesday I'll run outside and aim to finish in time to say goodbye to them both before he takes her to daycare. This morning since she was going to the doctor first, I had a little more time to log some miles. I am lucky that around me has plenty of sidewalks and lighting to make runing super early safe. I was out the door at 6:30am and finished by 7:45am (I ended a little over 7 miles).

Wednesday - group fitness class at my gym

This week I swapped my normal W/F to do the 5:50am group class today instead of the small group training. The workout we followed had 7 stations at 6 minutes each with a variety of movements such as HEX bar squats, single arm chest press, bar hand crunches, and slider pikes. These classes also have cardio with one station on treadmills and assaultbikes. My core was SO SORE even a few days later, it was a good one!

Thursday - rest day

Every week I take Thursday off from exercise. I do typically clean our house that morning (more of a deep clean style) while listening to some podcasts before my daughter wakes up. I'll take her to daycare around 7:30 - 8am, and come home to get ready for work.

Friday - small group training + 1 mile easy walk on the treadmill after

My gym package I pay for has 5 small group training sessions per month, which is up to 4 clients and 1 trainer. Below is the workout we followed in the 5:30am class, we superset #1 & #2. I finished in about 40 minutes so I did a few ab exercises and stretched before doing a 1 mile walk on the treadmill to read through work emails before getting ready for work! One of the reasons I picked my gym is that it has a nice locker room, which makes the effort so much easier to head to work early!

Saturday - 8 mile run outside

Our daugther is taking swim lessons at the Y, so our usual Saturday routine has been altered the last few weeks. Typically I do my long run first and swap with my husband so we are both ready to take her to her lessons. This meant starting my run at 6:30am and doing my Tuesday morning loop by the road instead of the running trail near us. I am looking forward to the warmer weather and our family stroller runs again!
