Over the past year, it feels like we have learned from our own mistakes about how to be prepared when we are out and about with our little one. This comes after many times when a palm to face moment has happened and I wish we had something on hand.

Here is a summary of our essentials that we keep stocked in our diaper bag and a few variations depending on what we are doing! We have the Lululemon New Parent Diaper backpack and I have loved it so far!

  • diapers (typically 4-5)

  • changing pad (included in diaper bag)

  • disposable changing pads (be sure to purchase baby branded, not puppy)

  • Water Wipes

  • Desitin

  • baby shampoo (stored in 2oz container) - sometimes our daughter spreads food in her hair, this help make for an easy clean up

  • baby wash cloth - see above

  • burp cloth

  • disposable bag (grocery or diaper dispenser) - not every place has a trash nearby when you are changing, and we have definitely used my car for a few changes

  • lotion

  • hand sanitizer

  • muslin blanket - we had a few very cold waiting rooms at our Pediatrician, especially when she is in a diaper

  • 3 toys - a teether toy like Sophie or rings, spinner to attach to surfaces, and electronic like this Baby Einstein

  • paci clip (we use for teether toys to keep them from flying everywhere)

  • placemat + spoon - better to have on hand so we do not forget when rushing out to grab a meal

  • spare socks

  • spare outfit

  • paci wipes - we use these for sanitizing toys

  • pouch and yogurt melts

  • water cup/sippy cup - it is not just meal time she asks for water

A few other things to consider:

  • swim diapers - for Summertime or swim lessons, since you'd still want to travel with them in a regular diaper

  • nasal aspirator - especially during cold season

  • baby Tylenol or Motrin (or teething gel) - teething pain is no joke and sometimes feels nonstop

  • playmat or outdoor blanket - there have been a few times we were out and I really wish we had something to put on grass or the ground

Just like creating a recipe or feeding your little one, a spoon can be difficult to balance.  I hope to share ideas and experiences to help you find balance across varyious things - healthy living, intentional movement, or being a new parent!
