I spent a lot of time trying to navigate what the heck am I supposed to buy for a newborn. I remember making my baby registry and feeling so overwhelmed at what I needed and what brands to purchase. As you probably know, baby items can range in price, so when you are looking at a bassinet or stroller and the prices vary from $100 to $1000+, you question what is worth the investment?
Here is a summary for some of the most used items we found!
Magnetic Onesies - we still swear by these for onesies and pajamas! One thing I'd recommend is to search for styles marked down and if they are running a sale, I'll purchase the next 2 sizes up. Typically we buy 3 pajama onesies per age group and 3-4 onesies. The magnets are SO easy to put on and off. Second to this would be the double zip onesies. Otherwise avoid snaps and single zips for outfits!
Herobility Bottle - overall, this bottle worked best for us but I recommend to purchase a sampler pack or a single bottle of a few types. I never realized how sensitive babies would be to what bottle they liked and did not like. We tried the Comotomo, Dr. Browns, Avent, and a few others but our daugther did not like them. Herobility was a sample I received from creating a registry with Babylist and it was her favorite! Within a few days we transitioned her to a bottle (I was pumping) to allow grandparents and my husband to feed her, so we didn't have as much of an issue with her rejecting a bottle either.

Doona - I tell everyone having a baby....BUY THE DOONA! It makes going places with a little one so easy and we recently flew with it. Babies do outgrow them around 1 year, so you will have to purchase another carseat and/or stroller, but especially the first few months, it was a gamechanger.

Bjorn Bouncer - we had a $50 bouncer I had registered for and she did not like it. She was having some digestion issues, and I read on reddit people referred to this as the "pooping chair" - oh man, did it work! She LOVED this bouncer, I opted for buying it from Target and it was almost $100 cheaper than the website. I did purchase the add on toy strap when she got older, and she did play with that as well while I was showering or pumping.

Mini Bjorn Carrier - when she was very small, we did a lot of contact naps wearing her in the carrier. It was also the only thing to keep her calm during the 5pm - 7pm window when she would be super fussy. For the first 6 months, she mostly faced towards us but now that she is a little older, she absolutely loves facing outwards to check things out while we are walking around! I know there are other brands that cost a lot more, but I found this one was comfortable for both of us and very easy to adjust.

Boppy - this is a great item to add to your registry, I preferred using just a pillow when nursing, but we did like using it for her tummy time!

Baby Breeza Sterilizer and Super Fast Dryer - I used my coupon from Babylist to purchase this item. It's so easy to clean out the bottles, I'm glad we didn't bother to pay extra for the washer component as well (I also read that it didn't do the best job cleaning out milk residue).
Velcro Swaddle - we never mastered the art of folding a blanket into a swaddle, and we even purchased the same blankets the hospital had! We bought a few of the Halo brand zip and velcro swaddles and were so glad we did!

Lovevery Playmat - we had another playmat that our daughter liked when she was a baby, but she quickly outgrew it and it didn't help with tummy time. I purchased this and found she would tolerate tummy time a little bit while looking at the pictures and accessories! We've purchased a few of the add one toy kits, but honestly, would probably skip subscribing to it monthly.

Frida Grow With Me Bathtub - we first had a bath insert, which we loved, but she quickly outgrew it. I love this item, and even at 10 months we still use just the tub piece of it to avoid excess water use for her nightly bath.
Lululemon New Parent Backpack - I love this diaper bag! I find we are able to organize everything in the storage components and it is lightweight to carry. I love the side pockets for holding bottles as well!
Items I'd Skip:
nice outfits for this age, they are always sleeping or snuggling for the most part!
shoes...there is no need.
buying excess clothing, you do laundry SO OFTEN it really isn't necessary.
wrap carrier - I was gifted this and so excited to wear it, but after 2 hours my back was killing me. I found the bjorn carrier (back pack style) to be much more comfortable.
Infant Lounger (pillow) - this was a gift and we used it some, but not as much as I thought we would. For $100+, not sure I'd recommend it.
